NO PHONE, NO POOL, NO PETS, NO CIGARETTES
While studying photography, I focused on documenting the homeless population of Brighton. Some images I have taken with permission, after sitting with an individual. Others I have taken without permission.
According to a recent study, one in sixty-nine people in Brighton are currently homeless. This makes the seaside city the third largest hub of homeless people behind Birmingham and London.
Many of these people have come to Brighton from areas such as Luton, Manchester or Leeds. Others have been moving around local towns such as Worthing or Portsmouth.
HONG KONG
I spent some time in Hong Kong photographing various areas such as Sheung Wan, Tsim Sha Tsui, Wan Chai, Lan Kwai Fong, Kowloon and Mong Kok, among others.
I found that many people took to falling asleep at the sides of streets, despite their fetid, hot and tumultuous surroundings. Hong Kong has a certain weariness about it, yet is awake all night.
I was particularly drawn to the bamboo scaffolders that would slide at speed down flexing bamboo poles metres above the crowded streets. This traditional method of building support is responsible for a number of deaths across the city each year.
